How to Upload Your CSV File in Overjoy
Why Use CSV Uploads?
Importing data via CSV saves you time. Instead of manually typing out every record, you can quickly add many leads or customers (and related information) all at once.
1. Prepare your data for upload
One CSV file: Export (or otherwise compile) your data into a single CSV file.
If you have an Excel file, simply save it as a CSV (comma‐separated values).
Include clear headers: Use descriptive column names, like “First Name,” “Email,” “Company,” etc. That helps Overjoy automatically match your data to the correct fields.
Check for completeness: Make sure any required data (like email address for contacts) is included.
Clean up duplicates: If possible, remove any duplicate rows before uploading. Overjoy can detect duplicates, but organizing them beforehand often saves time.
Validate file size: Large files (tens of thousands of rows) may take longer to process; if needed, split them into smaller CSVs.
2. Go to the Settings Page
From the left‐hand navigation menu, click Settings.
Under Integrations & Uploads, select CSV Upload.
3. Choose the Record Type
You’ll be prompted to pick the type of records you want to upload:
Leads – Businesses or people that have not yet placed a paid order
Customers – Businesses or people that have placed a paid order
Click the appropriate option, then select Next.
4. Select the Specific Data You Want to Import
Depending on whether you chose Leads or Customers, you’ll see different categories you can import. For example, if you chose Leads, you might see:
Businesses – A list of accounts/organizations you’re targeting
Contacts – People with contact info (email, phone, etc.) within those organizations
Tasks – Action items or tasks you’d like associated with these leads
Opportunities – Potential new sales or deals you want to track
Highlight the data type(s) you want, then click Next.
5. Upload Your CSV File
Drag and drop your CSV file or use the “Upload” button to browse your computer and select the file.
Wait a moment while Overjoy processes the file. (If your file is large, this step might take a bit longer.)
Tip: Make sure your CSV columns have descriptive headers, such as “Company Name,” “Contact Email,” etc. This helps Overjoy automatically match your columns to the correct fields.
6. Match Your CSV Columns to Overjoy Fields
After your file is uploaded, you’ll see a column‐mapping screen.
Check that each CSV column is assigned to the correct Overjoy field.
Adjust any unmapped or incorrectly mapped columns.
If any required fields are missing, you’ll be prompted to correct them or skip.
When everything looks good, click Next to proceed.
7. Review and Confirm
Overjoy will run a quick validation to make sure your data is ready.
If there are errors: You’ll see notifications indicating which rows or columns need attention (e.g., invalid emails, missing required fields). Correct the errors in your CSV file, or follow the prompts on‐screen to fix them.
If everything is correct: You’ll get a confirmation that your data is ready to import.
Click Finish to complete the process. Once complete, Overjoy will confirm your import is successful and your new records will appear in your account shortly.
8. (Optional) Assign Records to a List or Campaign
If prompted, you can associate these newly imported leads/customers with a specific Overjoy list or campaign. This is helpful if you want to:
Segment these records for a marketing campaign
Organize them for follow‐up tasks or workflows
Simply select the destination from the dropdown menu and click Finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What file formats are supported?
Currently, we only support CSV (comma‐separated values). If you have an Excel file, export it as a CSV before uploading.
2. Can I update existing records with my CSV?
Yes. When Overjoy detects a match (such as a matching email or business name), you’ll have the option to either update the existing record or create a new one.
3. What if I see strange characters or formatting issues?
Ensure your CSV is UTF‐8 encoded. Special characters (like accented letters) can display incorrectly if the file uses a different encoding.
4. My upload is taking a while. How long should it take?
Most CSVs import in under a minute or two. If you have a very large file with thousands of rows, it could take a bit longer. Feel free to leave the page open until it completes.
5. Who can I contact if something goes wrong?
If you run into any upload errors you can’t fix, please contact support at [email protected] and include your CSV file (if possible).
